On this blog you will find information on nutrition and fitness.  What you won’t find are quick fixes or pills and potions.  Food as medicine is the premise I work with and I believe that the only way to loose weight and get healthy is by changing our lifestyle.  There is no short answer.  You will have to work hard, stay dedicated and stay flexible.  Sorry but that is how sustained weight loss works.  I know, I know we all wish it was easier but it’s not.  Fad diets can be detrimental to your health and ultimately cause greater weight gain.  Pills are full of strange chemicals that have negative effects on your organs.  Starving yourself causes irritability, weakness and malnutrition and just so you know when your body is starving for calories…you actually force it to store more fat.

So who the heck am I to be saying all this?  I’m the Fat Lady.  I have been obese since about the age 9 and have never managed to get my weight down to the recommended number.  I have done a few diets which were in the end unsustainable for one reason or another.  Having experienced after diet weight gain and felt the effects on my organs and mental state I gave up trying all together for a few years.  Then I got the bad news from my doctor that I was “Diabetic”.  Obviously something had to give cause I wasn’t going to take pills if I could help it.  So began my journey of research and more research.  Things started to come together.

I believe that people need to find their own way with diet and exercise and we need to do a lot of experimenting to get our new lifestyles right.  With this blog I hope to share my path to good health as it’s happening and give you access to some of that I encounter on my way.  Lucky for me I’m also a chef so I can share the healthy recipes I come up with.

The other thing I want to share is one of the scariest things I’ve ever done in my life.  I want to learn how to sing and preform in front of people.  Why?  Well, I’m a pretty brave person.  I do things that most other people would find intimidating so I decided to become even more vulnerable by facing one of my biggest fears.  In the end the process of loosing weight and getting healthy requires a hefty dose of vulnerability in order to truly and deeply effect change.

Get ready, buckle up and open yourself to a whole new you.  I know you can do it.
